Description: “Turtle Trouble” John Deere Serving Tray or Hanging Picture.
“Turtle Trouble” is the second tray, featuring the work of a commercial artist, Walter Haskell Hinton. Mr. Hinton created this image for Deere & Company in the early 1940’s. It features a Model “B” tractor and a Model “H” manure spreader. This art first appeared on a 1943 John Deere calendar.
Hinton, born in San Francisco, California in 1886, studied at the Chicago Art Institute. He worked as a commercial illustrator in Chicago area, creating more than two dozen paintings for Deere & Company. His paintings for Deere & Company included farms, family and John Deere Tractors. Many of the original oil paintings can be seen at the John Deere Historic Site in Grand Detour, Illinois.
