Description: Olde World Globe and Pipes
Olde World Globes were originally moulded of papier mache, by hand. They were later constructed of wood, to afford a lifetime of usefulness and pleasure. The Olde World map is a parchment – like cartographer’s material, hand painted and antiqued by Olde World artisans.
The land masses of this globe are outlined according to data collected by the great European navigators, explorers, geographers and scholars between the years 1616 and 1622. Siberia Alaska and northern Canada have not yet been explored. Australia was still undiscovered. Most of the vast Pacific Ocean lay uncharted as the navigators, convinced that it was inhabited by terrible monsters, avoided the open sea as much as possible.
The emblems, description and decorations have been authentically reproduced from original globe of the same period in the Museo Selle Science in Florence, the Galleria Spada in Rome, the Museo Correr of Venice, the Biblioteca Nazionale in Naples and the Biblioteca Vaticana in Rome.
Shown with Seal. Along with eight pipes. The globe opens up and hold tobacco.
